who we arewhat we do
We have extensive experience in carrying out research projects ranging from local to national in scale, including the undertaking of a number of feasibility studies. This has involved:
  • Undertaking desk-based reviews of publications, government polices, new technologies, legal powers and market studies
  • The design and execution of structured and semi-structured surveys, including face-to-face or telephone interviews, focus groups and online surveys
  • The analysis of policies and strategies
  • Impetus is currently carrying out a feasibility study into the potential to promote insulation manufacturers from hemp and flax to householders in Uttlesford Borough Council. The feasibility study is funded by the Energy Saving Trust's Innovation programme.
Research projects completed in recent years include:
  • Impetus has been commissioned by BRE to carry out a feasibility study of the development of a new assessment method for the sustainability of materials, which would feed into the BREEAM building schemes
  • Examining local authorities’ use of the power of well-being to support sustainable energy activities (funded by the Pilkington Energy Efficiency Trust)
  • How local authorities deal with 'hard to treat homes' (on behalf of the Energy Efficiency Partnership for Homes)
  • A market review of renewable insulation materials (partly funded by the Pilkington Energy Efficiency Trust)
  • The potential for increased carbon savings from the local and regional sectors (on behalf of Defra)
  • Opportunities for higher energy efficiency in new housing (on behalf of the Energy Saving Trust)
  • The potential for promoting advanced glazing in West Sussex (on behalf of Arun District Council)
  • The potential for Manchester Airport to use energy crops to provide heating for some of their buildings (on behalf of Manchester Airport)
